Dimensions

Reasons to Use Dimensions

Dimensions is a dynamic and powerful reporting tool that can be customized to fit your Region’s needs. Put simply, Dimensions allows users to filter data. Dimensions are divided into 2 Types.

Type 1 - Seasons or Categories: A category is considered a grouping that you want to report on, such as a tournament or EXTRA. Type 2 - Sub-account or sub-category: Used in an addition to the already established NAP account. For example, under #5111 – field expenses, we could add sub-accounts Paint, Maintenance, etc.. or as a sub-category (Names of Tournaments teams)

How to Create a Dimension

  1. In the Dimensions Tab choose Dimension Entry
  2. Name your Dimension ( Spring, Winter, Extra, Tournament Name, Paint, Car Wash, etc..)
  3. Choose the Type:
    1. Type 1 - Categories/Season (Tournament Name, Extra, Select, Spring, Fall, etc..)
    2. Type 2 - Sub-accounts or sub-categories (Paint, Pins, Car Wash, Lawn Care, BU10, GU12, etc..)
  4. Select

Why Dimensions are useful

Let’s look at a few reports to show the use of Dimensions. These reports are generated from the General Ledger report class, accessed under the Dimension Reports function and selecting a Profit and Loss report.

Below is an example of a Profit and Loss report using our Primary category as a type 1 Dimension and sub-accounts as a type 2 Dimension. As you can see the NAP account codes 5146 and 5262 have additional breakdowns. (5146 - balls and storage, 5262 - Silent/Basket and Raffle)

Next, let’s view a similar report for our spring season. Using Spring as a type 1 and sub-accounts as a type 2 Dimension. It looks similar to the Primary reports shown earlier but is only for revenue and expenses related to the spring season.

Now, let’s look at a tournament we hosted called the Fireball Tournament. Although “ALL” Dimensions is selected for Dimension 2, none are visible because none were selected when posting payments and/or deposits in the General Ledger.
